Our story

“I have been building outdoor spaces for myself, my family and friends for 30 years. When I moved to Pocatello in 2011, I bought a house with a yard full of dirt, weeds and thorny plants that were not at all friendly for my two-year-old son. Since then it has been a work in progress, and a fun test yard and garden to try out new ideas and materials.

I completed the Idaho Master Gardener course and, alongside my own property, started doing projects for friends and neighbors, until I decided to make it official and created Scout Mountain Landscaping. I keep researching xeriscape and hardscape materials, native plants, and regenerative and responsible soil practices. I also enjoy traveling and bringing home new ideas from other places.”

We are a family business

My wife, Jen, studied botany in college and loves selecting native and pollinator-attracting plants that create color and interest through the seasons. We have enjoyed growing our own healthy vegetables and herbs, and raising our son in a space where he can step outside and snack on tomatoes, peas, kale and raspberries. He has grown from pushing a toy skid steer in the garden to operating a real one when we remove lawns.

We love to create beautiful, custom lifestyle spaces that help you enjoy the outdoors. We love building garden beds so you can grow your own delicious and healthy food. And as much as possible, we encourage regenerative soil practices and reducing water consumption and chemical use. Protecting our soil and growing plants is a powerful way to protect our planet and absorb carbon emissions.

Whether you know exactly what you want or don’t have any ideas at all, we are happy to work with spaces large and small. We have turned an asphalt driveway into a thriving garden and patio, a hillside of dirt and weeds into a stone retaining wall and garden beds, and dying grass into a flagstone pathway with native wildflowers, among many others.
